Loughborough starts fundraising for Vision Bangladesh with restaurant event

On Thursday 5th April, Nicky Morgan MP hosted a Charity Evening, at the popular Bengal Restaurant in Barrow upon Soar in Loughborough.  Special guests included Baroness Syeeda Warsi, Chairman of the Conservative Party and Minister without Portfolio, the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood, and leading councillors and business figures.  The event was in aid of Vision Bangladesh – a partnership programme that is on target to eradicate avoidable blindness in Sylhet Division of Bangladesh by December 2013.

Baroness Warsi, Chairman of the Conservative Party, described how impressed she was with Vision Bangladesh’s work after having visited the project in Sylhet in 2011 with Project Maja – the Conservative Party’s social action initiative which she leads.

Nicky Morgan MP said: “We raised £380.00 Gross for BRAC's Vision Bangladesh programme, which means another fifteen adults can have their cataract operation, or 50 community health volunteers can be trained in eye care health.”

The community fundraiser was organised by Kazi Mashud, Welfare Rights and Immigration Officer at the Human Rights and Equalities in Charnwood and Mohammed Abdul Mazid, Proprietor of the Bengal, as a ticketed event with proceeds going to Vision Bangladesh.

Kazi Mashud said: “This is only beginning in Loughborough and Leicestershire for Vision Bangladesh programme. We hope to do many more such events in the future.”
